Bulkheads are watertight partitions that break up the bow, middle, and stern sections of the kayak. Combined with airbags, bulkheads play an important role in providing flotation for your kayak. In a sea kayak the bulkheads also separate you bow and stern storage bays from the central cockpit. This means that they help to keep the gear that you put in those bays nice and dry.
